At the Collection we are a small team who are passionate – passionate about design, creativity, craftsmanship, objets that are both beautiful and practical and also fun ideas…
Each one of us has there own way of expressing her creativity.
We thought we would give you a little glimp of the things we really love.
Janette (who looks after this blog, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc.) was for a longtime a jeweller so is a big fan of handycrafts. This weekend, she celebrated her daughter’s 4th birthday. A little girl that loves anything fairy related…
“I have really happy childhood memories of the birthday cakes that my Dad made. They were always decorated with different themes – a doll, a log cabin with a little garden… it gives me a lot of pleasure to make cakes for my children too.”
So how about an “English Style” birthday cake in the shape of a fairy mushroom house ?
“To make the cake I used a recipe for Chocolate Almond cake that everyone loves (adapted from a recipe in the book ‘Best-of Cakes by Marabout Chef’) with a big added dose of imagination for the decoration.”
Chocolate and Almond cake – serves 14 – 15 people 360 g flour 100 g ground almond 6 eggs 320 g sugar 300 g melted butter 150 g dark chocolate drops 10 g baking powder 1 tea spoon bicarbonate of soda 2 pinches of salt
Beat the eggs with the sugar. When the mixture becomes foamy, add little by litte the flour, ground almonds, salt and the melted butter. Stir in the chocolate drops, the baking powder and the bicarbonate of soda. Pour the mixture into a cake tin and bake for 40 minutes at 180°c. Let the cake cool, cover with ready roll fondant icing, decorate and eat !
On the roof of the mushroom house, a baby fairy is asleep, and in the little garden the table is laid for tea. There are flowers, little mushrooms and bird’s nest filled with eggs and even a little patch of strawberries !
And just in case the cake wasn’t sweet enough, there was also a tower of sweets!
It’s our new Strawberry wallpaper designed by Mini labo for the Collection Editions that you can see in the background of these photos.
You can also find the whole collection here and at our Paris boutique.
There are two patchworks and three single motifs : Strawberry, Peony and Pop which are produced traditionally in the UK.
The wallpaper manufacturer that we work with was kind enough to send us some photos of the wallpaper in production.
It makes us want to go and decorate some walls!
To celebrate the launch of this new range of wallpaper, we have invited Mini labo to install a pop up shop in our boutique from the 3rd June to the 5 July.
Come and discover their range of products created to celebrate their 10th anniversary, including the Mini labo for the Collection Editions wallpaper !
