First a little history – Native to Southeast Asia, rattan is a plant belonging to the palm family that grows as a full vine. As well as being flexible it is also robust and does not change according to climate variations, all of this makes rattan an idéal material in the manufacture of furniture, its flexibility also allows the creation of complex shapes. To create furniture, solid wood is placed in the oven to make it easier to create the shape that you want and then when it cools it keeps that shape.
Rattan is everywhere this year, in beds, in armchairs, whether a rocking chair version or not and also in chairs that you can put behind a table, next to a shelf or next to a bed …. Natural, varnished or stained, rattan is no longer just for garden furniture!
